Labour Day saw several players of the gentle game of bowls "on the Awaroa green, and the> caretaker, , assisted by the green superintendent, are to be congratulated on the splendid condition of the greens, and a very enjoyable afternoon was the result. Old. uns and the colts played ' come really good heads. The Satur- "' day previous was to have been the nfficial opening of the green, but owing to the bad state of the weather it was put off, and as it would be , a pity to have the opening day shelved '. why could not the bowlers and Tennis Olub combine and make a good day , of h ? It is not too late. Most of - the town clubs have declared their greens open, therefore town players' are bound to come along. ' A few remarks to. players for the coming season :—First : Always obey the skip, for he sees all the play, no , matter how it looks to you, do as he . • asks. (2) When counting heads " don tall rush to count, stand aside l and let the third men, who are also the measurers, they instruct their V skips, when asked to take charge of the game in their absence, tells them < the position of the bowls if they cannot agree, then the skip's are conn \ suited.
