SUCCESSFUL ENTERTAINMENT 'V; AT PARAKAI. , ~$ The social, given by the Parakai Branch 4 of the Women's Patriotic League, and J held in the Parakai Hall on September i 12th was a very enjoyable one as well )\ as being successful financially. There *1 was a large attendance, the Hall being '*4 too small for affairs of the kind. $ Musical items were rendered by Master '*•& 1. Lambert,. Mesdames Bailey and -« Lambert, and Messrs Cucksey and M. *.$ McGarvey. Master V. Aitkenhead gave \ 1 a very stirring recitation entitled "On L;?i the Road to Berlin." Various guessing competitions kept the people busy, and " ' dancing was indulged in at intervals. ' \< A very refreshing cup of tea with plenty of cakes and sandwiches were to be had - for the sum of 6d. The cakes were all , .*; donated by residents of the district, those, not used for 9U pp e r being v auctioned later on. At the lower end of '-/ " the Hall was a large stall well filled with gifts of every description-ham,'-Poultry, eggs, butter, vegetables, etc?, fc which were auctioned by .Mr Carrf!^ ' who kindly gave his services, for^F evening.
