BELGIAN" CHILDREN'S FUND,

A pleasant afternoon was spent at Mrs G. Dye's on Saturday, July 29, by the children. Miss Waddell was in' charge. The book competition was well contested, the first prize going to Miss Varla Bellini for most titles answered. First prize was awarded to Miss Olive Cole for best thought out representation of a bdok. Mrs Dye provided afternoon tea, which was greatly appreciated. The children's collection, etc., realised some £2 15s for the above Fund. HEAVY RAIN. It was hard for some people to keep their head above water here lately—notably Mr F. Dye. The rain was heavy on Wednesday, and on Thursday Kaukapakapa was like a wide and deep river. The water was knee-deep in Mr F. Dye's kitchen, and it washed all over the floor of his store —the floor of the store being raised considerably. Some people lost sheep and cattle. WAR ANNIVERSARY. A public meeting was held in the Hall on Friday evening last. Mr Massey's patriotic resolution was read and heartily carried Mr Dye read it, and Mr Jordan seconded. Mr Thane recited Kipling's Recessional, and Miss Sinclair played a pianoforte duet. Mr F. Stewart and the Rev. J. A. Lamond spoke on the resolution. CHURCH PARADE. Over thirty men attended Church in uniform last Sunday morning The service was patriotic to celebrate the second anniversary of the war. The men marched to Church. The Rev. J. A. Lamond conducted the service, and preached a patriotic sermon on " But the end is not yet." A litany for our army and navy was sung, and a prayer of intercession was used. RIFLE SHOOTING^ A friendly match was fired on the local range recently between Helensville and local riflemen. A pleasant afternoon was spent by all,
