THE LATE INQUEST,
TO THE EDITOR
Slß,—May I inquire through your open columns, if it is true that the child which died rather suddenly one day last week, was buried without a doctor's certificate showing the cause of death. It is an old saying here, and it has prevailed for years—" That anything does for Helensville," it is so free and easy" But let that be as it may, the laws of the land, and those attached to Coroner's inquests, death certificates, and interments, should be rigidly carried out. If they are not, then it is hard to say what might happen, happy-go-lucky as we are. I also understand that a rider was added to the late verdict on the child—"That the local doctor should leave a 'locum tenens' in the place when he is about to be absent two consecutive days." This was not given in your last issue.—l am, etc.,
Old Resident,
