FOOTBALL.
SCHOOL MATCHES.
ON Saturday last the return match, was played between Helensville school and Te Pua and Parkhurst school, at Parakai in a paddock kindly lent by Mr Aitkenhead. The weather was fine, and the game was fast and keenly fought, and although the Parakai boys won by 12 to 3, they had by no means an'easy win. The Parakai forwards, however, were too strong and too dashing for the Helensville boys, who made several good passing rushes, only to be driven down the field again. Montgomery, who was the star of the team," drew first blood for Parakai with a drop kick goal, and Geldard evened the score with a fine try for Helensville. Half-time saw the teams still even.'
In the second spell Parakai set to work with determination, and after some good work in the scrum, Porter (half-back) got away in fine style and scored again. Thus encouraged, Parakai, especially Smith, made a great effort and again scored, while Helensville, who seemed unable to play a losing game, allowed Parakai to rush through
agam
The tries were scored by Montgomery, Porter, and Geldard and jthe game ended 12 to 3, amidst great barracking, which reminded one of the old Parakai v. Helensville matches, when feeling ran strong. The Parakai boys well deserved their win. Thanks -are due to Mr Kowles who kindly acted as referee, and to those who provided refreshments.
