THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE." HELENSVILLE, THURSDAY, June 1, 1916 " PEACE BE UNTO THEE."
YANKEE INTERFERENCE.
THE Peace of the World is a great question to-day. Peace would be welcome by millions of neutrals, aliens, and enemies alike, but in the unassuming, and perhaps bluff, opinion of the ECHO, it is a "piece of sheer bunkum and cheek " for America to pose as mediator. What next? Uncle Sam (Wilson as President) might have stepped in from the first commencement of bloody hostilities, and said and done a lot. Had the Sfars and Stripes gone on foot, and stuck to their colours, "and said, though not ready for a big contest at the time, no more than Britain, or France, or Belgium were —" We will go with England (from which we spring), and fight against German Militarism for the peace of the world," all would have been happy and flourishing today. But no; America, who could have put ten million of men into Germany's cook-shops within six months, preferred to play " Old Maid," and scoop in the almighty dollar, and even look on the while and put up with the wholesale murder of her own subjects by German submarines and torpedoes. And is now commencing to seek peace as an " Almighty Cringer." What next ? But no hope while the British Empire, France, and Russia stick together ! What is a scrap of paper to Germany? Murderers, thieves, and liars, who have broken every treaty.
