Some friends visited Helensville yesterday, with the intention of starting in business here, but noticing a row of empty and out-of-repair shops, they decided to evacuate, and got.
Madame Chandler, of Auckland, announces her intention to make a [display of seasonable millinery in Star Theatre, Helensville, from to-morrow (Friday), until noon on Saturday.
" The Master Key" was wound-up at the Helensville Theatre on Saturdaynight last, after a prolonged series at fourteen shows, 'peu-a-peu.'
We are pleased to learn that Lieut, C. White, of Helensville, has been promoted to captain, and is at present stationed in Egypt. He was a very enthusiastic officer whilst here, and his promotion has been rapid.
In our report of St. Matthew's Church Easter Services last week, we omitted to mention that the musical portion ,of the service was very good and reflects great credit on the vicar (Rev. Merton), who conducts the choir.
Mr Peacock, who formerly represented the North Auckland Farmers' Cooperative, Ltd., having severed his connection with Helensville, is about to proceed to the Homeland, accompanied by Mrs Peacock.
Mr H. Bradly (late slaughterman for Messrs Stewart Bros.) is now local representative for the North Auckland Farmers' Co-operative, Ltd., and the general opinion is that he will do all that is expected of him.
Take it from the ECHO, our article on collecting bottles for all kinds of war benefits, is going to catch on. Helensville now starts one on its own, the proceeds going towards the North Auckland Aeroplane, in which we should Uke a ride.
11 Charlie's Night Out," Charles Chaplin's first appearance in Essanay Comedies, when he will be seen at his very best and is irresistably amusing and entertaining, will be shown at the Star. Theatre to-morrow (Friday) night; the supporting programme is a splendid one and will include a powerful drama entitled " For the Secret Service." Another good programme will be screened on Saturday, " The Life Line," an interesting drama, is the star feature, while " The Dare-devil Chief " (featuring Ford Sterling) is a reel funny one. For Wednesday, an impressive picture, " The Troops in Egypt," depicting the strenuous time our boys had while waiting for the Turks, and showing every phase of camp life, the pyramids, etc., is undoubtly a great attraction ; another good item is an unusually virile play entitled " In Fear of his Past."
