THE DOMAIN BOARD.
TO THE EDITOR , Sir,—l read with sensations akin to disgust the silly letter signed by " Hot ■ Springs" in your last. He suggests that the Domain Board was responsible for the presence of competition at Hmemoa House, because they made an arrangement with Mr Allen to permit him to drain through the Board's drain ?,, return for sur Plus water from Mr ~ Allen s spring. If the Board had refused Mr Aliens offer, they would certainly not have blocked Mr Allen. After spending a couple of thousandfpotmds on~vthe boarding house and grouhds he^ would not have been baulkedGimtfff*^ though having to find an exfraßpor '■ so for drainage. Besides, notwitfPlhdmg" Hot Springs'" opinion, the^ard was faced with the necessity of getting more water for their new baths, and if they did not arrange to receive Mr Allen's overflow, they would have had to, i - spend a considerable amount on fresbl & borings with the probability of failing to " find a further supply. "Hot Springs" knows just as well as I do that the' Board s revenue has never been sufficient for its requirements. It has always had an overdraft—and even when "Hot Springs" held office the financial questionwas always in evidence. But while Hot Springs " is simply silly in the first part of his letter, he becomes very nasty when he begins to- attack Commissioner Becroft, who, he says, built Hinemoa House. Mr BecroftV services to the Domain Board during my term of office have been simply invaluable, and "Hot Springs" muft hive a very short memory if he has forgotten 3?tWi eVery? c Wlth full knowledge of ■ :
E. Thurlow- Field, Ui airman Domain Board.
