NOT ASHAMED.
TO THE EDITOR
Sir, —Re Mr J. McLeod's references in last week's issue, Had I been ashamed of any one word in my letter, I would not have given you full permission to' give my name to any person desiring it, As for the cackling, well, I'm sure if Mr Field has gone to the same trouble to find out Ratepayer's name, he will ba greatly amused and surprised to find I'm one of his chicks, as he is aware that I would criticise him as soon as anyone else. I hold no brief for any one person. Re the water supply—if the water is not largely surface-gathered, will Mr McLeod tell why so much surface was acquired. A.nd as to my ignorance on the matter, I would not care to enter the lists with Mr McLeod on any matter, seeing that his reputation for knowing things in general is so high. I notice, too, that he still thinks he is the people, as he winds up by saying " we, the people, agree,"—l am, etc.,
Ratepayer.
