LEAVING CREAM CANS IN THE SUN
The Raglan Chronicle in a recent issue pays attention to the farmer's practice of depositing his cream cans at roadside places to await conveyance to the factory, and puts the query: Are farmers taking the milk business seriously ? When a farmor will put his cream in a can and stand it on the side of the road in the broiling sun to await the carrier, is it to be wondered at if the butter is not first grade? It is impossible for a factory to turn out good butter with inferior cream ; even if the responsibility rests with the manager to condemn the cream he' would only do so as a last resourse. The writer goes on to point out how the settlers are only penalising themselves, because from lack of cover the milk becomes in a condition that reduces it from first to second grade and the difference in price is lost.
