THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE." HELENSVILLE, THURSDAY, MARCH 23, 1916 RECRUITING.

We learn that Mr J. G. Coates, M.P., is particularly interesting himself in recruiting matters about the Dargaville district, and in affairs connected with invalided soldiers. Of course we must bow to the fact that Dargaville is the hub of the electoral district, but that does not alter the fact that Helensville should be universally ignored and passed over in respect to almost everything going. In the matter of recruiting, however, we may safely say that Helensville and all round is as good a happy hunting ground as is to be found about Dargaville or anywhere else, in proportion to its population. Certainly Helensville is playing the game so far, and no one can throw stones at us, but for all that there are a number of good and worthy eligibles who only want proper canvassing to give their consent. And why the Hon. Sir Francis Bell should have also utterly ignored the place by passing it by last week, it is hard to say.

Tde Hon. Sir Francis Bell met a deputation of the local bodies at Dargaville other night (says Dargaville Times), with reference to the Government's recruiting scheme, the Mayor (Mr McLean) presiding. At the close of a ve*y interesting address, and after a number of questions had been answered, the following resolution was adopted—That this meeting of local bodies repiesentatives heartily thanks Sir Francis for his excellent address, and for the information he has given, and that it approves of the suggestion that he has made re the carrying out of the Eecruiting Board's scheme. The same gentleman might have also stirred-up some of the dormant blood of Helensville, had he cared to.
