DEFENCE NOTES.
HELENSVILLE EIFLE RANGE
The official opening of the Helensville range took place on Saturday, 18th inst. Mrs D. Stewart, of Helensville, fired the first shot, and scored a bull, after which Mr F. Stewart (of Kaukapakapa), President of the Kaipara Defence Rifle Club, detailed the leading events connected with the Helensville Platoon since its inception. Referring to the rifle range, Mr Stewart said that Mr D. Stewart (Helensville) had given the use of the range" to the Forces for some years, and had in every way given his support to the Rifle Club.
Mr F. Stewart also referred to the help given by Messrs Jas. Stewart arid A. Bishop, which had in a considerable manner placed the Platoon in the satisfactory condition in which it now is, there being some 35 men uniformed.
A match was then fired, 10 rounds each man at 200 yds. Following this the ladies fired for a special prize, which was won by Mrs Garry.
. The ladies supplied afternoon tea. There was a record attendance, notwithstanding the unfavourable weather, quite a number of the Headquarters Platoon attending.
Lieut. Fletcher took charge of the proceedings, and carried out his duties in his usual efficient manner, and a most successful function was brought to a close by giving three cheers for the ladies. The Helensville Platoon wish to express their appreciation of the help give by Capt. Turley and Lieuts. Fletcher and White to the Platoon since its inception, * * * 15TH N.A. REGIMENT The above Regiment went into camp at Taumarere (Kawakawa) on the 2nd inst., when a most useful week was pqt in. The syllabus was carried out as per instructions from Headquarters. During the camp the annual inter-company football matches took place, resulting in a win for C. Company, headquarters Helensville. The Commanding Officer, Colonel Steadman, decided to give a shooting trophy, to be fired for annually, teams to consist of seven men and an N.C.0., points being given for discipline on lange, fire orders, fire control, and fire discipline. The result of the shooting is as follows : — Company Total A 101 123 136 300 B 143 122 74 339 C 184 113 172 469 D 113 103 102 318 Band 50 49 36 135 * * * PARADE NOTICES The Helensville Pl'ataon will parade on Thursday, 23rd inst., at 8 p.m., at the Agricultural Hall ; and at the Orderly Room on Saturday at 1.45 p.m., to proceed to Kaukapakapa.
All Cadets of the 64th Company Auckland Senior Cadets must parade at Tahekeroa on March 28th., 1916. Cadets will parade at Defence Office, Helensvilie, on that date at 10 a.m.
