DEATH OF OLD SETTLER

Mr John Fisher, one Ipf the original Albertland settlers, died last week at the home of his daughter, Mrs C. Bartley, Ponsonby. Mr Fisher, who was 86 years of age, arrived in the .fifties by the ship Matilda Wattenbach, and after living for some time at Port Albert, came to Auckland, where he enlisted for service in the Maori War. He afterwards went . into business as a member of the firm of Fisher and Co., butchers, Queen Street, and,earned some distinction as the first Auckland exporter 'of frozen \ meat. About 25 years ago he sold out, and^ took a farm at Te Awamutu, but came to live at Epsom in 1910. Mrs Fisher died sorke..— • sixteen months ago.
