WORKERS FOR SOLDIERS' FUND On Wednesday, November 24 a very pleasant entertainment, in aid of our Wounded Soldiers' Fund, took place in the Kuraeu Public Hall, and resulted in the Fund benefitting by over £75. The entertainment took the, form of a bazaar, with competitions, etc., followed by a; dance. The stalls were all very tastefully decorated, the produce and jumble stall (erected by Mr Phillipson and other willing; helpers), and the sweets stall (erected by Messrs Griffin and Lambert), being the most noteworthy,, the former by its daintiness and "the latter by<- it rustic elegance. The stall-holders' were :*, — Jumble and Iproduce, Mesdames Phillipson, Boucher and Braithwaite ; sweets, Misses Griffin, Boord and Phillipson ; gifts, Mesdames Wilson (Taupaki), and Stanley Bell; flowers, Mesdames P. Reynolds and Stallibrass, and Misses Gray and Hunter (Taupaki) ; refreshments, Mesdames Boord, Deacon, Goodwin, and Misses .Barnes, Smith and Farrand; strawberries and cream and ice cream, Misses Bews (Haupai); dip-in-the-well, Mesdames Stephens and Sinton. The competitions were under the able management of Mesdames Best and F. Reynolds, and with donations, brought in £17 odd-; the stall bringing inmost was the produce and jumble, the gift stall being next. The refreshments we're exceptionally good and varied. The strawberries and cream provided by the Misses Bews, were excellent and were most daintily and tastefully served. The more solid refreshments, under the capable management of Mrs Boord and staff, were served in the supper-room, which . was tastefully , decorated, and the tables groaned under the .weight of good things provided by the ladies. . , r Mr Boucher (our local J.P.), assisted by Mr Buscomb, conducted the raffles, which were : — Bicycle, donated by Mr. E. Phillpison, won by Mr Angel; watch, donated by Mr Sinton, won by Mr Fickling (Haupai); ostrich feather, donated by Mrs Langfield, won by Miss Bell; ostrich feather, donated by Mrs P. F Boucher, won by Mrs Borich; suit press, donated by Mrs F. Reynolds, won by Mr Burrows (Haupai); stamp album and stamps, donated by" Mrs E. Phillipson, won by Mr A. Gray (Taupaki); toy elephant, donated by Miss Helen Griffin, won by Mrs Stallibrass., The raffles were drawn for'on the stage between 8 and 9 o'clock. Songs and dancing finished a very enjoyable afternoon and

evening, and considering it was a wet night, the result was highly satisfactory, and very creditable to all concerned.
