THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO With which is incorporated "The Kaipara Advertiser & Waitemata Chronicle." . Helensville, Thursday, Oct. 14, 1915. CLASHING

A bather regrettable circumstance occurred fast week when there were two functions to farewell some of our boys going to the front, taking place upon the same evening—one a public affair, and the other one a Foresters'. These naturally clashed, or at least the Echo considers so. The Foresters' event, we understand, was prearranged some months ago, in view of a number of the local Lodge members going to the front, and for the sake of brotherly love; while the public send-oft* given in McEwin's Hotel was promoted with some haste for a few boys who were timed to leave by next day's train. Needless to say, both functions went off with enthusiasm, but what we want to point out is this : How much better and more generally appreciated would have been the case had there been one large public function upon some other evening than that held for the Foresters.

The present war is going to last a long while yet, therefore it is not too late to set-up a special committee to arrange all future send-offs, the carrying out of patriotic aud war relief funds, arranging for collectors, receipts and disbursements, etc., in order to avoid any clashing, and there has been much, of the 'atter during the past eighteen months, and so obviate the evil of 4k too many cooks spoiling the broth. 5' The Town Board or a public meeting should certainly arrange for a Patriotic Committee being formed, with a permanent chairman and secretary, until the war is over, then one and all would know where they are when anything crops up aiming at monetary and gift reliefs,, and farewells to our boys.
