A FAREWELL SOCIAL
A MOST enjoyable send-off, in the form of a smoke social, was tendered to some Helensville men belonging to the 7th Reinforcement, on Thursday evening last, 7th inst. It was held in the Kaipara Hotel, and there were about 25 present, including members of the Legion of Frontiersmen, Helensville' Rifle Club, and a few civilians.^ After a light repast had been partaken of, Mr E. T. Field (the chairman) proposed the toast of *' The King," which was honoured in the usual fjf&y. CorplWatt and Pvt. Johnson responded to the toast of " Our Guests," in a few appropriate words, and said they would do their best for- their country whilst at the front, IVtessrs W, R. Fosbroke, Garry, Rimmer' Tucker, Murphy, Elliott, Simmonds, and J, Taylor, a}so made nice little speeches, wishing the guests good luck in their brave attempt to help defend the British flag. During the evening songs and recitations were contributed by Messrs J. Constable, E. T. Field, Langdon, McKinnon, G. Murphy, and Screaton (2). The proceedings terminated with all singing " Auld Lang Syne'" »
