Turks Call for Help—Urgent demand to Germany — Constantinople Doomed — Desperate Fighting In East — Russian Army's Firm Resistance -
It is stated that the Turkish mission to Berlin demanded immediate military assistance from Germany. The German plan was Jo reach the Black Sea, but it has failed, and now Germany finds it impossible to spare troops to attack Servia.
An invalided French officer states that the Turkish losses are enormous. He is confident that Constantinople will be taken before the end of September. The activity of British submarines in the Sea of Marmora is said to have paralysed the shipping.
It has been announced in London that the number of casualties at the Dardanelles up to August 21 was 87,632.
All witnesses agree as to the terrible character of the atrocities being practised by the Turks against the Armenians. It is belieyed the official intention is a campaign of extermination.
It is reported that the TurcoBulgarian railway agreement has been signed, and that present indications are that Bulgaria will remain neutral.
The Russians have repulsed repeated attacks in the Dvnisk region. North-east of Vilna the Germans have crossed the River Vilia.
