SHOULD CHILDREN BE PUNISHED?
This is a point that is discussed by A. R. Osborn. M,A., in the second of a series of articles on " Australian Parents and Their Children," which he is writing for " Everyladit's Journal." The August issue of that enterprising magazine is to hand, and for all-round value and interest it would be very hard to surpass. So many excellent features mark this numnumber that it is difficult to pick any one for special notice, but it may be men tioned that the Hon. John Murrray (Victoria's bluff Chief Secretary), Dr. Edith Barr Police - Commissioner Sainsbury, and other notable public men and women contribute short articles on the question of employing women as police. One or two of those who write recognise that if women are able to relieve the police force of considerable part of their work, many fighting men may be released to go to the front.
Apart from these are many bright special stories, and the " £100 WarPuzzle Contest" advances another stage —a stage at which all new readers may enter. A valuable feature of this contest, it seems to us, is not so much the money prizes, which are liberal, as its educative value, for each competitor may secure a booklet containing a list of some hundreds of names (with the correct pronunciations) from whioh the picture-puzzles are being set. It sells locally for sixpence; but if unobtainable, a 3s postal note sent to T. Shaw Fitchett, 376 Swanston Street' Melbourne, will bring it by post each month for six months.
