A LAUGHABLE FARCE

The fact that the Helensville Town Board posoesses twe fire-bells and that they are carefully stowed away somewhere for safekeeping, makes one shudder to think of the risks the town runs from a fire occurring without the chance of warning bells to awaken the residents to pending danger to 'life and property. We would urge upon the Town Board the importance of at once erecting the fire-bells—one, say, near the Bank corner and the other near the Public Library, Helensville South, at whatever cost it may be to the ratepayers, p|;herwise it is a perfect farce to have them stowed away, as at present. When the fire occurred last Friday morning on board the Clematis, very few knew of it till late in the day, and the Fire Brigade was late in appearing on the scene, for want of alarm bells ringing.
