LET US SEE OURSELVES
TO THE EDITOR,
Sir, —I was glad to note last week some one or other had taken up his pen in favour of, shall I say, in beautifying our town from the principal entrance —the railway gates and wharves? I have been in many parts of the world, in large towns and small ones, and can truthfully say that the main objective is to make the approaches and to have them clean, decent and ornamental. But what have we at Helensville proper? Dirty approaches, a large, brick, barrack-looking hotel surrounded by a number of shanties and then a rickety bridge with but one footway to get across. Let us hope the time will come when there will be many changes for the better. But from what I can see and gather, it is not a " numerous " Board that is going to do much. Why, when the Board comprised but five members, compared to seven now, there was just as much work and improvement going on, and more. Why is that so ? Take the other end of the town. Nothing doing, aud never has beeu since the Board was increased in size. Not a yard of metal; just a patch, up now and again by a solitary surfaceman. So what is the member representing Helensville South doing for the honour and glory of his position? I say to one and all, I am, etc., Wake-up, Men. Helensville Southwards, July 26, 1915.
