DROWNING FATALITY
A LABOURER named John McNeil, in the employ of Thomas Napier, contractor, Morningside, who has the contract for the erection of the new Helensville ferro-concrete bridge, accidently fell off a portion of the structure at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 30th. He was seen floating down the river by his mates, and one young fellow promptly jumped in to the rescue, but before he could he reached the unfortunate man sank. There was at the time a fast-running in-coming tide, and it is supposed that the body was carried away. When the police were informed of the occurrence search was made for the body, and is still proceeding, but up till the time of going to press the body had not been recovered. Deceased had been in the employ of Mr Napier for a number of years, and was very steady and well liked. He was a single man, aged about 40, and we'l-known in the Auckland district.
A brother of deceased, ,Mr Archibald McNeil, farmer, of Clevedon, arrived in Helensville on Wednesday evening.
