FRIDAY
Air Fleets Active — Zeppelin on English Coast — British Success at Ypres — Fight on Italian Frontier—Heavy Austrian Losses Another Zeppelin raid on the north-east coast of England is reported. Many explosive and incendiary bombs were dropped. Sixteen persons were killed and 40 injured.
A message from Amtserdam states that three British airmen dropped bombs on a Zeppelin shed south of Ghent.
glfhe British made a successful pp attack against the German position at Hooge, east of Ypres, occupying the enemy's first line of trenches along a front of 1000 yards, and also part of second.
The French continue to gain ground in the Arras and Aisne regions, and have made important progress in the Vosges.
The Italians are gradually occupying the dominating- heights along the Trentino and Tyrol frontiers.
The Russians aro stubbornly resisting the Germans along the Dneister, in Galicia, and have recaptured the village of Zurawn south-east of Lemberg.
Montenegrin, Servian, and Greek troops are reported to be operating against the insurgents in Albania. The Montenegrins have defeated the Malissori tribesmen.
SATURDAY
Gaiician Campaign—Decisive Battle Expected—Submarine through the Narrows — Turkish Transports Sunk—Allied Success in France From the Russian " Eye-wit-ness" comes an account of the recent fighting in Galicia. He describes the German attacks as , the biggest effort yet made to bolster up Austria. The attacks were chiefly confined to intense arti^ery fire, -'which was very accurate in so far as the German ar J;i"_eryinen were concerned. The i-'ght wing of the Russian advance in the Carpathians was outflanked and had to retire. Haifa corps recbilled its position without loss, but the other division had to fight its way through and lost beav:i.y. . Another British submarine has passed the Narrows and attacked Turkish shipping. Three transports were sunk. Great activity is reported from the western front, where, at several po'nts in the region north of Arras, important successes have been secured by the allies. ' A successful raid by allied airmen on German positions at Zeebrugge, Heyste and Knocke is reported. Serious damage was done. Italian naval airships dropped bombs on the important railway junction of Divacca, east of Trieste, doing great damage.
MONDAY
Advance in Alsace—Fleets Active in Adriatic —Russian Success in Bessarabia — Fall back towarcis Lemberg
The French advance into Alsace along the Fecht is meeting with marked success. The Germans evacuated Metzeral after setting fire to the town. The enemy's communications with Munster, four miles to the north-east and 12 south-west of the fortress of Colmar, are under fire of the French, who have bombarded the railway station at Munster, setting fire to ammunition depots. North of Arras the French have captured another German position, which the enemy had stubbornly defended tover a month. !he British have advanced htly west of La Bassee, and Fin the trenches captured east of Ypres. A message from Amsterdam states that the British offensive in these regions completely spoiled the German plans -forcing the enemy to send to the threatened front 100,000 troops, which were to have been held in reserve in Flanders.
The Italians continue to bombard the Austrian stronghold of Malborgetto, and are also pursuing the offensive along the Isonzo. Austrian positions at Monte Santo and near Gradisca were assailed by bombs from air-

French Successes — Russia's Fight in QaiicJa — Sound of Guns in Lembeig — Allied Progress on

Details of the capture of Bu,val Bottom, near Lorette, north of .A. -.'as, by the Frsnch, show that the. Germans here occupied a
ravine which formed a natural stronghold aad abounded in subterranean forts and redoubts. The French invested the position on three sides, and, after a preliminary bombardment, their rufantiy advanced on two sides.
it is officiary reported that the French, by a fresh attack, progressed three-fifths of a mile towards Souchez. They repulsed a violent attack in the Argonne, and captured two lines of trench in the height of the Meuse. They continue to progress along the Fecht, in Alsace.
Passes have been issued to 10,000 Russians permitting them to leave Lemberg, where the sound of guns is audible. Strong forces of the enemy crossed the Dniester, in Eastern Galicia, below Nizniow, but were driven back by the Russians, who captured 2000 prisoners.
WEDNESDAY
Ground Won in France—Advance in Alsace — French Occupy Metzeral — Russian Figat for Lemberg
The French advancing in Alsace along the Fecht captured the village of Mefczeral by assault and have established their lines beyond the outskirts of the village. The French'have also made progress in the Bonhomme Pass of the Vosges, further north capturing a mountain spur. The Germans have given ground on the Lorraine frontier.
German aviation parks, -north of Arras, have been attacked by French air squadrons, which1 set fire to four hangars.
The French have progressed towards Soache/, capturing several trenches. On the western borders of the Argonne forest, the Germans delivered a violent local attack, which was preceded by an intense bombardment, in wlreh asphyxiating projectileswere uced. Two French companies were buried in trenches which were destroyed. By an immediate counter-attack the French won back almost the whole of the lost ground.
The .Russians are still retreating upon Lemberg. it is officially reported that they have withdrawn from the Grodek Lakes, to the west of the city.
An Italian auxiliary cruiser captured an Austrian naphtha ship containing supplies for submarines. 160 miles from Naples, on west coast of Naples.
THURSDAY
Battle of Gaba Tepe — Piles of Turkish Dead — Desperate Fight in France Latestreports from Dardanelles state that the French troops on the peninsula achieved a sub stantial success on Monday last, capturing the Turkish first and second-line trenches along the whole of their front after 24 hours heavy and continuous fighting. On Saturday the Turks subjected the British lines to a heavy bombardment with high-explosive shells, but failed to dislodge the British from their trenches. The Germans have again-bom-barded Dunkirk with long-range guns. North of Arras a violent artillery struggle is now proceeding.
