THE HOSPITAL SHIP.

TAKEN ON IN HELENSVILLE.

A meeting of Helensville ladies was held in Stewart's Theatre, on Tuesday last, to decide upon the best means of contributing to the Hospital Ship Equipment. About sixty ladies were present, and the chair was taken by Mr. E. Thurlaw Field, Town Board Chairman, and convener of the meeting.

Mr. Field in opening proceedings, read a telegram from the Mayor of Auckland, and a list of equipment required for the hospital ship. He also stated that on the previous evening, a fund had been opened for the same object headed by Dr. Meinhold with £10, and followed by others of .the Masonic fraternity. The amount thus raised had totalled £25, which was a very good start. He also stated that the amount raised in Helensville, for the Lindauer Picture fund had reached about £48, which was nearly two and half times as much as Helensville had been assessed at by the committee in charge of that fund. •

After some discussions all the ladies present resolved themselves into a committee to raise funds for the Hospital Ship Equipment.

The chairman pointed out that the list of requirements advertised in the morning HERALD was very much shorter, than that in the HERALD reading columns of the previous day. Enquiries elicited that the list in the morning's HERALD was' a correct list of what was required.

Considerable discussion as to whether Helensville should endeavour to get together equipmentor should be satisfied with a monetary contribution. But it was eventually decided by 14 to 12 that only money should be contributed.

A committee of ten ladies was then appointed to conduct a

house to house collection

The chairman stated that Mr Carter had offered to get up a concert in aid of the funds, and that Mr Stewart had offered the use of his hall free for the purpose. He also read a letter from Mr A. Becroft offering the use of his hall.

Jt was decided that Mr Carter's offer be accepted with thanks, and that two entertainments be held, one in each hall, and1 that the owners of the halls be thanked for their offer.

It was also decided to have a Rumble Sale at one of the entertainments.
