Italians doing Damage—Bombs on
Naval Arsenal—Frontier Forts Battered — Allied Attack in Flanders —German Line Pierced —Zeppelin Reported near London. A bold air raid has been executed by the Italians on the chief Austrian naval base of Pola. A dirigible flew over the town on Sunday, night, and despite an intense artillery fire from the Austrians, dropped bombs on the arsenal, railway station, and a petrol depot, A great fire is reported to have been caused at the arsenal. Italian torpedo boat destroyers also shelled the Austrian dockyard at Monfalcone, near Trieste, and destroyed a number of Austrian sailing vessels laden with flour. Austrian forts on the Trentino frontier, north of Vicenza, were reduced to powder by the Italian bombardment. The Italians are also shelling the forts on the Isonzo River, on the eastern frontier. Reports from Amsterdam state that the Germans are giving ground north-east of Ypres, before vigorous attacks by the allies. The enemy's line has been pierced at several points.
Reports from Petrograd declare that the battle along the San has turned in the Russians' favour.
Zeppelins are officially reported to have been seen at Ramsgate, on the coast of Kent. Brentwoad, in Essex, and also in certain outlying districts of London.
Another American steamer has been sunk by a German subma rine. The ship was shellen by the enemy.
