Naval fighting in Adriatic—ltalian Destroyer sunk—Austrian Cruisers damaged—Advance of Italian A r my—Russian success—Allied Progress in France.'
Minor naval engegements have taken place in the Adriatic between Italian and Austrian warships. An Italian destroyer was attacked by an Austrian cruiser • and a destroyer. After fighting for an hour and exhausting her ammunition, the Italian destroyer was sunk by her crew. The two Austrian warships were seriously damaged on being engaged by an Italian squadron: Another Austrian cruiser, together with a torpedo boat and a destroyer, were seriously damaged by shore batteries on the Italian coast. '' On land the Italians have made nwked progress. The army operating on the north-east frontier has occupied the town of Gra-
disca, 25 miles north-west of Trieste. The island of Grado, in the Gulf of Trieste, has also been occupied.
The Russians have achieved a notable success north of Przemysl, by the capture of Sieniawa, on the east bank of the San. Seven thousand prisoners were taken, and eleven German guns captured.
The Germans in North-east France continue to yield ground to the allies, who aie still pursuing the offensive. The French have made considerable gains in the Soucher and Ablain St. Nazaire region, north of Arras, and have checked all counter-attacks by the enemy. The British have made further progress near La Bassee.
