It will re-open again in October. This has been done annually for years. On Sunday, May 23, prize books were given to the children. A special children's service was held, and a good number of parents and friends were present. The books were good and numerous. The report as read showed that both by attendance and good work, the books were all ■well meritted, and they were also given in order of merit. FOE TAR FRONT. Two young men—Mr Dormer and Mr Mcßride —have just lately gone to serve the Nation as soldiers at the front. The home of both is here, and a farewell social for them was held in the Public Hall at Kaukapakapa. Their many friends will think of them while away, and will be glad to see them rsturn in good health. DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. A local match was fired on the range here last Saturday, but owing to heavy showers of rain, it Avas postponed to Saturday next. Every sign points to the faot that the wonderful German fighting machine is beginning to crack.
