INVASION OF MAKARAU

TO THE EDITOR

SIR, —On the night of our Social at Makarau six young fellows came over from Helensville. Some of them were the worse for liquor, and were putting in talse bids for the baskets, and causing a disturbance in ',the porch. The local boys would not stand this, and some of them began to go out to settle matters, and on this all the six " put " for home. It was a pity that the pleasure of the quiet ones was spoilt by their rowdy companions, -for they had all bought tickets, button-holes, etc., and could have had a pleasant evening if they had all behaved themselves. I don't know what sort of a name they will give Makarau, but the " clearing-out" they got was quite their own fault.—l am, etc.,

Makarau Settler, Makarau, Ist May, 1915.
