FLASHES

A few laying fowls advertised for.

Tenders are required by the Helensville Town Board, for the erection of a culvert on the Ratawhiri road.

Three letters to the editor this week. Just what the ECHO likes. Shows that some interest is being taken in public affairs.

Rev Lamond on Sunday last, delivered an excellent sermon to a large congregation, on the demise of the late Thomas Rimmer, of Helensville.

Government are going to run excursion to popularise Rotorua. Where does Helensville come in, with its second-to-none mineral baths?

The wife of Mr Alex. Mack, who died in the Auckland Hospitai on 18th inst., was interred in Helensville, on Friday last, many mourners being in attendance. Mr Mack has numerous sympathisers.

It is wonderful where the money for the different shows is coming from, as they appear to be fairly well supported. Last Saturday evening, both Theatres exhibited some wonderfully developed educational, amusing and dramatic pieces. On Monday evening the celebrated Cherniavsky's had a well-filled house at the Star Theatre. On Tuesday evening, the Helensville Theatre had a good house; so also the Star Theatre again. The Helensville Theatre shows some capital pictures to-night, Thursday; and of course both shows " light up " on Saturday evenings.

One cannot easily get past Mr Jas. Stewart. The other day a section of land was offered to the Town Board at 35s per foot for a Fire Brigade Station. The Board offered 30s. Mr Stewart immediately got up on his feet, and said if the applicant did not accept 30s a foot, he, himself, had a section next on, which he would give at that price. This, offer, see report—has been accepted. " And now, when the Board contemplated they should purchase two fire bells, Mr Stewart is " all there." He had two bells on hand, and offers them "ominomi" as the Maori says. Wonder if the. same generous citizen has any of Mother Carey's chickens on hand cheap, should they be enquired after.
