THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO With Which Is Incorporated "The Kaipara Advertiser & Waitemata Chronicle." Helensville, Thursday, Feb, 18, 1915. KAIPARA LICENSING COMMITTEE
The triennial general election of members for the Kaipara District Licensing Committee, as well as for all others in th« Dominion, will be held in pursuance of " The Legislative Act, 1908," and " The Licensing Act, 1908," and the Returning Officer for the District, Mr S. Ure Macaulay, announces that nominations for the election of five members must be delivered to him at Dargaville on or before noon of the 27th of February.
The . present retiring members of the Kaipara Incensing Committee are Messrs Trounson, Hayes, Fiulayson, Bassett, and McLean, all of Dargaville centre, thus showing that little or no interest has hitherto been taken in this part of the extensive Licensing District, which is the same as the Kaipai-a Electoral District. But this should not be so. Helensville, with its extensive area both north and south, right as far as Otamatea, including Matakohe, Paparoa, etc., and being a large centre with no less than three large hotels, and others a few miles away, should be represented, not that the Kcho has anything in common against the old Committee, some of whom know nothing ajout the place other than passing through the boundary line by. rail and boat. This is a matter for the electors to take up, and at least one, if not two, nominees in Helensville should be forthcoming by Saturday, 27th inst, if the people take an interest in public and licensing matters. Every person whose name is registered on a Parliamentary electoral roll in force in the district is entitled to vote in the election, but any person who has any beneficial interest in the manufacture or sale of fermented or spirituous liquor, or in a licensed house, or who holds a paid office except that of magistrate under the Government or under any local authority may not be a candidate for election.
The selected candidates will hold office for three years. Should the required number of members not be nominated in any district the deficiency is remedied by appointments by the Governor.
On the day of the polling a public holiday must be observed from noon, and the sale of intoxicating liquor between that hour and 7 p.m. is prohibited
