AWAROA BOWLING CLUB

A GENERAL meeting of the above was held at the Bank of New Zealand on Thursday, January 28, a fair attendanco of members being present. Owing to the unavoidable absence of Mr Bishop, Mr Hammond was voted to the chair. Mr Harris was appointed green superintendent, and Mr Coutts as assistant, vice Mr F. W. Strange resigned. The present handicappers, Messrs Rimmer, Harris and Hammond, were made the match committee for the remainder of the season. Fresh arrangements with regard to keeping the green in good condition were made, and members will in future have four rinks available for play daily. This must be considered very satisfactory from the player's point of view, and it is to be hoped that more enthusiasm will now be shown amongst the members. " ROOSTERS " COMPETITION The result of last Thursday's match for the above created an immense surprise, when the "holder," Messrs Graham and Cullens, who were "odds on" favourites, were defeated by Messrs Cuthbert and Murphy by 28 to 21. The losers were decidedly off their game, whilst the winners were playing right at the top of their form, The winners made a good start by scoring 13 points to their opponents nil, thus giving them confidence, which was never lost throughout the game. Mr Graham, with Mr Strange, has defended the title .twice, whilst with Mr Cullen, he has successfully held them 6 times. The separation will give a chance to some of the other members of holding the envious "roosters," CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES (First Round) Ellett beat Harris after a close contest, by 20—19 Hill beat McEwin, 21—16 Bishop beat Phillips, 18—12 Graham beat Garry, 31—11 (Second Round) Constable beat Cuthbert, 20—13 Smith beat CulUens, 18—16 Hammond beat Reyland, 3,3—9 Ellett beat Hjll, 33—9.'
