THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO With Which Is Incorporated "The Kaipara Advertiser & Waitemata Chronicle." Helensville, Thursday, Feb, 4, 1915. THE FATE OF THE GOVERNMENT

SYSTEM OF VOTING ROTTEN That there is something rotten in our system of returning Members to Parliament, goes without saying; the petition against certains returns, and the stupid delay in the final declaration oE the polls and parties proves this, which is absolutely wicked. While Sir Joseph Ward is still working assiduously for his party with a view of getting a majority of two over Mr Massey, the Government is shivering in its boots, -and present indications show that Sir Joseph Ward is either going straight into power, having the Labour support with"l^im. or there^ is going to be another general election. Time will soon der cide. The £)imedm fight came off: yesterday, between Strath* am and Mnnro, but who is to tell whether this decides the bone of contention or not ? There may yet biv another petition^ so peculiar is the law. The following is the result up to the time, of going to press: C. Stathpin 3744; f Muni's 3732; informal 199. J
