WOODHILL
TENNIS
One of the most interesting * ~" and strenuously contested garne^ ever witnessed on the local A courts was played on Saturday, \i January 30. The match in * question (Woodhill v Rewiti) was arranged as a farewell to three " members of the local Club, who * are leaving the district, viz., Mrs Hughes, Mr H. Jackson, and Mr Pi McDonald. The day was beautiful, and during the afternoon the Rewiti members generously provided afternoon tea, which was greatly, enjoyed by the many present. The match resulted in a win for Woodhill by the narrow margin of 22 points, the score reading: 11 sets to 7, and 9& games to 80. At the conclusion of the match Mr T. Paul, on behalf of the Rewiti Club, congratulated 'Woodhill on their win, and in ' - | concluding expressed his sincere regret that Woodhill was losing (in his opinion) three of their' ', players of the first rank. / ' Mr H. Jackson, on hehalf of ' the winners, heartily thanked iMr Paul for his kind remarks, and thanked the members for the pleasant afternoon's sport they had afforded them through the match. Personally sneaking, J^JtM was very gjad that tijsTidM^ appearance in a match shoulC^l have been against the Maoris,^who were the greatest sports, one - could wish to play against. Prior to the match, Messrs P. . McDonald and H. Jackson played ' off for pride of place as Woodhill champion, and after a most interesting exhibition of tennis,^ warmly applauded by the specta- • tors, Mr Jackson won, defeating Mr McDonald in two sets: 9—7 and 9—B. v "
