An exceedingly inte^estj^H situation is developing in Pola^H Three German army corps h<^| been cut off from the main a:iTl^| eastward of Lodz, and are desfi^B ately struggling to fight tidH way north. They are bd^H subjected to a heavy artiHi^M fire, and are believed to be stij^J The isolated army corps sia^H ceeded in breaking the Russi^B centre, but their success in operation cut their communi^H tion with the German armyaM the north, Jwhich was defea^H and driven further northwa^H thus widening the gap betva^B the two armies. ]H There is stated to be unea^M ness in Berlin on accounti^B reports of heavy Russian -'^H inforcements passing thrcsjj^H Warsaw. - ]^| !*cS\Galicia the Russians hd^J a decided success. Thßre is no marked change in the situation in Belgium. German infantry attacks south of Ypres have been repulsed. Some hundreds of Germans who at~ Jempted to cross the canal at Fumes have been taken prisoners. Three German destroyers have appeared in the English Channel, off Havre, and sunk two British steamers. The crews reached land in their own boats.
