DEATH OF EARL ROBERTS
ON DUTY TO THE LAST
THE Prime Minister received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated from London, November 14: "It is officially announced that Earl Roberts died to-day." A later message from the High Commissioner states that Earl Kitchener received this evening the following telegram from Sir John French : " I deeply regret to tell you that Earl Roberts died at eight o'clock this evening. (November 14)." Earl Roberts was on a visit to France to greet the Indian, troops. He contracten a chill on Thursday, and succumbed to an attack of pneumonia. The distinguished career of Field - Marshal Earl Roberts covers a period of over 62 years. A son of General $ir Abraham Roberts, Frederick Sligh Roberts was born at Cawnpore, in India, on September 30, 1832. He was educated at Eton, Sandhurst, and Addiseombe, and General Sir Abraham Roberts was in his 69th year before be made the quaintance of his son.
