PRESBYTERIAN BAZAAR

IN AID OF CHURCH FUNDS

WHAT proved to be a most successful Bazaar was held in the Star Theatre, Helensville, on Friday and Saturday (13th and 14th inst), and was opened by Mr E. T. Field at 2 p.m., on Friday, a large attendance being present. The stalls were tastefully decorated with red, white and blue drapings, and well laden with a tempting array of goods. Plain sewing, fancy work, knitted and crochet articles, dolls dressed and undressed, sweets, flowers, and refreshments all were there, and buyers there were in plenty. Competitions of various sorts were indulged in, the bun-eating and ladies' nail-driving events causing much amusement; while the shooting gallery attracted a good number of shootists to try their skill. A dainty novelty was the " fairy wheel," which, with the Xmas tree and "dips," greatly interested and amused the young fry. On Saturday evening the proceedings were enlivened by a short picture programme, and it was not until mid-night that the happy crowd dispersed. The weight-guessing competition for the cake was won by Miss Simcock land Mr Murphy ; while Miss Donovan proved herself the champion nail-driver. Miss Ellen Bradly, who won the guessing competition for the Bride, is handing it over to be auctioned for the Belgian Fund. Some of those who assisted were: Fancy goods stall, Mrs Hill and Mrs J. Stewart; mystery stall, Misses B. Wilson and A. Simcock; -drapery, Mesdames Driscoll and James; children's clothes, Mesdames Kirgan and Menzies ; flowers, Mrs Vercoe ; soft drinks, Misses Aitkenhead and Nichol; sweets, Misses A. Simcock and Stewart; refreshments, Mesdames Coutts and Garry. Great credit is due to Mrs Wilson (the secretary) and her energetic committee, for the arrangement of the stalls, and the variety of useful articles displayed. The Rev. Gordoir Kirgan was also untiring in his efforts to promote the success of the undertaking, and it is-ex-pected that the Church fund will benefit to a very considerable extent.
