THE world was startled on October 30, by the Daily Chronicle's Paris correspondent stating that Germany offered, through influential French commercial and financial intermediaries, to make peace with France alone, France receiving Metz and portions of Alsace and Lorraine, and Germany retaining Antwerp and Northern Belgium. The offer was instantly and scornfully rejected. What must the Kaiser think the French are made of ? Surely better stuff than a lot of villainy, ous traitors and thieves. ~-'/ "*
Our old friend, Mr A. E. Harding of Mangawhare, is expected to return from his Home trip some time next week. He would rather upset; the calculations qf somji of the candidates for the Kaipara seat were he to contest the election, and one never knows.
