University for Jerusalem.
Over 4,000 .Jewish visitors, liesides 500 -delegates. who hailed from all parts of the world, recently met in Vienna for the 11th Zionist Congress, which will in all probability bo best remembered in principle upon the establishment of a Hc'ii-ew University in .Jerusalem, and appointed a Commission to attend to the preparatory steps. It is didicult to d escribe the enthusiasm with, which the resold" ion was adopted : the crowded floor of delegalos and the gal!eric; thronged ] with guests cheered lustily and incessantly, and- waved handkerchiefs and hats, as though in their fervid \i:-.ion they could already perceive the stately walls of i.iie I'niver'iiy in the Holy City. The gratifying annomwement was made that -L.I'VOO had, without a"ny collection ! eiiig made, at once been sub-s'.-ribed towards the cost of the scheme. The University idea is really older than the modern Zionist movement, though it was cherished by Iler/.l in tlie early (lays. Tt cannot be doubt.-d that it would strengthen niitteiially the .Jewish consciousness and the Nai ionalist sent itnent.
