The Makarau and Glorit (combined) Patriotic Promenade Concert, which was held on the 9th inst., was an immense success During the afternoon Misses Elvin, Hooper and Harlin made a large number of button-holes which were all sold in the evening at 6d each. Miss Harlin also gave patriotic rosettes and these too sold well. Mr W. Gardner gave lollies; Mr P. Smith, lemonade ; and Mr W. Manuell, cigarettes ; all sold at a profit. The Hall Committee gave the use of the Hall, and Messrs C. and T. Hooper gave their services as musicians for the dance programme. Supper was provided by the ladies. Two little girls, dressed a red-cross nurses, with money-boxes, collected quite a sum. The weather was perfect, and by 8.30 p.m. the Hall was crowded with a large and enthusiastic audience, and the programme was opened with the National Anthem by the company Songs, recitations, etc., were contributed by Mrs E. Smith, Miss Elvin, Miss Harlin, and Messrs LeGallais, Diamond, A. Ranum, H. Elvin, Geraghty, R. Woodcock, an 4G, Hooper, Most of the items were patriotic. Mr LeGallais gave an interesting short address on the War. The total sum oolleoted was £12 19s — excellent for a small district. This amount will be forwarded to be used for the benefit of the Auckland section of the troops. Special credit is due to Mr W. Gardner (chairman) and Miss Elvin (secretary) for the way in which they worked for success, indeed all the committee did their utmost for the same end,
