Thousands of sombre clad woman marched down Fifth Avenue, New York, on August 29, to the beat of muffled drums to signify their opposition to war • Nearly all wore black dresses and black hats,, and at the head of the procession marched a standard-bearer with a large white flag inscribed in black with thq word "Peace."
