PREPARING GERMANS FOR DEFEAT
IF GERMANY GOES UNDER
THE Germans at Rotterdam are aghast at the tone of the latest Berlin newspapers, which are preparing the German people for defeat. Official messages admit that the German troops may be compelled to abandon certain positions, and ask for suspension of judgment until the result of combined operations is know.
The Berlinger Tagebl^tt says : " The announcement of an extensive attack against the German flank is not calculated to relieve suspense, but we know that the German lines are protected by broad echelons. Even if iresh French and British forces advance to the north-eastward they are bound to encounter these echelons, which the German commanders will bold in expectation of such advances. The influence of British reinforcements, is showing itself more and more. Arouivl Verdun a decisive movement is approaching. The Cologne Gazette, in urging people to subscribe to the war loan, said: "If Germany goes msev, Qur fortunes and property will he lost/
