THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE." HELENSVILLE, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1914 THE ENEMY'S LOST TRADE
Whateter the issue, Germany is already funking on lost trade in prospective with Great Britain and her vast dominions, and well the murderers may. The Berlinger Tageblatt, a newspaper printed in Amsterdam, states that it will require extraordinary exertions to recapture the markets that were open to Germany before the war, German exports to British colonies aggregated £500,000,000, "We may expect these countries," .states the Tageblatt, "not to buy from Germany what can be bought elsewhere." The vital question arises, will Germany ever be able to recall the past with • England and her dependencies ? We think not. The British people are not soon to forget a dastardly wrong, and it is time that her colonies took a hand in producing some of the nunw--ous articles of trade to the
extent of millions, and so sweep away for all time the " made in Germany '' productions which gained such worldwide notoriety simply because they are cheap—many being also nasty at that. When one comes to think and ponder over the wioked atrocities now being perpetrated daily by a nation calling itself civilized Christian, .it is galling to think England and her children have been so generous and kind in the past as to treat them with liberality and lavish patronage, knowing at the same time that Germany has all d*long had a bitter canker against the English, because of her supremacy on land and sea, and, in fact, in all things — humane, culture, commerce, and expansion. Let us hope that ; the child of to-day will remember Germany's new venture — the wicked and cruel war— which has plunged Europe into the loss of millions upon millions in wealth, lives and cities, railways, and public buildings past all repair, and live to see Germany humbled to the dust and her military power of aggression gone for
ever.
