THE SUN AS DOCTOR.

The reaily wonderful power of healing to be found in the rays of the sun has Just recently been brought to general notice, especially in'connection with tuberculosis. Clinics situated among the Alps have been organised for .some .10 years now. and the results enable their directors to affirm that the treatment, holio-iherapeutics, or as it is aptly named., will cure, external forms of tuberculosis in every variety and at all ages. The direct action of the sun and fresh air is proved to reduce pain, kill microbes, and conduce to the growth of new skin. The sun bath, according to Dr. Rollier, of Leysin, may be indulged in equally well during all seasons of the year. The whole body is bathed in sunshine, little by little, until the patient can stand six or eight hours' exposure winter or summer. Gradually the skin gets brown, in some cases it becomes very deeply coloured, even, chocolate. This pigmentation is an important point, Dr. liollier shows that it gives £he skin a peculiar power of resistance, favours the healing of sores, and confers on the slan an immunity against cutaneous affections by microbes.
