King of Buganda in London.

Daudi Chwa, King (or Kabaka) of Buganda (which forms part of

Uganda, in Central Africa), has been visiting London for the first time, and, with his chiefs, has taken

great interest in the •'sights" of the Metropolis. The name Daudi is not pronounced "Dawdi," but more like "Dowdy," or more correctly by syllables, Da-u-di, the vowels being Italian in force. The name is simply the Buganda version of David. Daudi is seventeen years of

age, and another year remains before he becomes, in the eyes of the British Government, of age, and takes over the full responsibility connected with the kingship of Buganda in place of the three Regents who at present govern in his name. In appearance he is tall for his age. He has had the benefit of a careful training at the hands of an English tutor appointed by the Government. His knowledge oi English is remarkably, good. Most natives find our language peculiarly dillicult both as to pronunciation and construction. But King Daudi, for one who has not been to England before, probably speaks better English than any of his own subjects who are under the same disability.
