A Tomato Hint.

When gTowing tomatoes out o doors an ordinary farm hurdle i; one of the best means of supporting them. The plants ' should be plant ed 2 feet apart. By tying th< shoots from time to time to th< bars they are spread out and nol crowded, as when a single stak< jis used. ! During the summer the whole . hurdle will be covered with foliage. When tying, use soft two-ply stiing: bass or raffia is not strong enougl to carry the ' weight of the fruit Tie loosely, as the stems swell tc a good thickness.

All shoots beldw the fruits must be diligently removed as soon as they appear. Do not cut away leaves unless it may be here and there one that quite covers a bunch of fruit. Removing foliage from any plant only weakens' it. Do not give too much water unless the ground is very dry. Put a mulch round the roots after the fruit is set, and water in the morning or evening when necessary.
