THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE." HELENSVILLE, FRIDAY, SEPT. 18, 1914. A NEW START FOR HELENSVILLE

The election, of seven members to constitute the new Town Board took place on Wednesday, 16th inst. (as duly notified), when of the old members of the Board, which numbered five, three were re-elected, the rejected being the old chairman (Mr Jas. McLeod) and Mr Jas. Hand, for which a large number of electors are sorry, for old times sake. There is no doubt about it, but an ill-feeling existed between Mr Jas. McLeod (the late chairman) and Mr Jas. Stewart (an old and valued servant of the town, also a onetime chairman). Owing to the change in the personnel of the new Board, this little side-feud will be eliminated, and, Jet us hope, for the good of the town, progress, and -* all of us J"

Speaking of the new Board, J just elected, when one comes to ! piok the card all to pieces, there is a little surprise. Originally there were thirteen men nominated, but just in time to save his bacon or favour a friend, Mr W. W. Bradly J rather shy of local politics) withdrew, rWing twelve good j and true men remaning, with j the result that our'qldand tried ;ftw4 —£. fhurjow r?ield — whom we £now in another place (field, if you like) £ops the poll, scoring 24? out' of a possible voting of 372, which is immensely creditable. Then Aye have as his followers, as the numbers went up — James Stewart, J. Lambert, J. A. | Wilson, T, Elliot^ Qiptain' Sellars, and old-timer Aifod, Becroft. A goodly crew, cer- j tainly, if Mr Field ' is 'elected their eßairman, \ which, we trust, will' bo'1 the , wise $©}tf-ofe&, though we \

have (so it is asserted) too many lawyers in Parliament, we think one in his proper place on the Helensville Town Board is quite apropos. In electioneering some must lose, others win; the losers have our sympathy—if they care—the winners, our hearty congratulations. If the best are all there, time will tell.
