Mr. J. Jones, Auctioneer, Victoria and Lome Streets, Auckland, reports :— Business in the local market has been very brisk this week, and a large volume of business has been done. Poultry firmed considerably and in some cases extreme rates were realised. Competition was keen throughout the sale These prices we do not expect to hold, as the buyers were only buying to fulfil orders for shipment next week. Potatoes and onions are much firmer. Swedes and pumpkins are in better supply and demand. Kruit is slow of sale. Egg s and butter are coming forward in heavy supply and prices are ruling low.er. Pigs are firm. Th,e grain market is very firm, and owing to disorganised steamer service supplies are short. By general appearances prices will be firmer in the course qf a week or two..
