SATURDAY, 15th AUGUST

PRESENT : Messrs Jas. McLeod (chairman), A. Becroft, Jas. Hand and Captain Sellars.

The Auckland Gas Co. wrote asking what would be the probable requirements of tar for the coaling season. —The Clerk was instructed to order 50 barrels for delivery Ist December.

A circular was received asking the Board's co-operation in a proposal asking the Government to pass a Validatory Bill enabling Councils and Town Boards to devote a twentieth share of their revenue to the purchase in New Zealand of food supplies to be shipped to and placed at the disposal of the Home Government. —It was decided to support the proposition.

Mr V. F. McLeod wrote under date August 10, stating that " From this date I will charge the Town Board rent for the Pound so long as it remains on my section, The rate will be 2/ per week." —It was decided to hold consideration of the letter over till next meeting, and the Chairman to see what can be done in the meantime.

Mr G. W. McEwin wrote stating that there was a small balance over from the social to Mr Park, and offering same to the Public Library funds. The Clerk informed the meeting that he had asked Mr McEwin to hand it to the Librarian, and at the same time had thanked Mr McEwin, on behalf of the Board. —The Clerk's action was endorsed.

The Clerk reported that he had written to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board in connection with the relief to a Helensville resident, asking why such relief had been stopped and requesting a continuation of same. —The Board confirmed the Clerk's action.

It was decided that owing to the present serious condition of affairs, caused by the outbreak of war, the Board's road staff be reduced to one, and that the contract for carting be suspended for the present.

A complaint was received by the Board that a large branch of a macrocarpa tree was obstructing the footpath in front of Mr La Roche's premises in First Avenue. —The Clerk was directed to write to Mr Laßoche, asking him to have same removed at once.
