A Hanging Fern-Holder.
Ferns hung up in the window or in the hall always look wonderfully pretty, and in the accompanying sketch our artist shows a handy little holder for this purpose that is very easy to make, and can be carried out on the same lines in any size to meet requirements. It consists of a circular piece of wood about half an inch in thickness, in which three small holes have been drilled quite close to the edge. The diagram on the right. shows this. This piece of wood is smoothly covered with silk, which can be turned over at the edge and fastened on underneath with any strong adhesive. Then to the three holes strands of fine wire are fastened and the ends carried upwards and twisted together into a small loop, by which the fern and holder may be hung up. A glance at the sketch will explain this. The edge of the holder is trimmed with a fringe of beads chosen of a. colour to match the silk and arranged so that it hangs in points.
After the holder has been suspended in position, the fern and pot can be placed upon it, so that when the fern requires attention and watering it merely has to lie lifted down, and the holder itself need not be disturbed in any way.
