On one occasion, just before one of his recitals. Paderewski was stopped in the entrance-hall by an excited lady. "Oh, M. Paderewski " she exclaim 1 ed, "1 am so glad to see you ! T want so much to hear you play, but they tell me there isn't a seat left. Xow, do try to find me a seat somewhere. I'm sure they'll let 1110 in if you ask them to. Please !" Paderewski bowed very gravely. "Madame," he said, 'T shall be delighted to help you. fiiere is one seat in the hall at my disposal, and you can take that if you care to."
