WHAT COUSIN JACK SAYS

Mister Heditor

Deer Sar,—l was thinking I would give'ee an invatition to come out to Parakai and see what purty roads us do have out ureA and by Goth ' s ar, you shud hear the ladies ! How they do go off 'bout our up-to-date roads Of course, they are all purty (I main the ladies). They do say when they are taking a walk along the roads they do have to pick their way 'tween mud and stones, and, sar, how it do make em wild mudding their nice boots and splashing of their smart frocks. Howsomever, sar, the people hereabouts do say we have one man here as knows all bout mending roads. They do say he his a riding member, but I tell c sar, hif he woud come down off the hoss and sometimes ride one week and walk t'other he would see some mud. Now Mister Hediter, hif you would come out this way now and agen haw would give'ee parcels of stuff to rite about for yourn paper so ar could fill 'em all up. Now I woud like to tell'eehow they do make thase nice roads Fust thee cart lots af stones and shove them bout all over the road, and then they taks and spreds lots ot sods and durt hover it Then after hes been some rain,, they sends a man along and he trys then to scrape off the mud and lave the stones. So you see, Mister Heditor, we do go about it in a most scientific way Then sar, we have those nne boarding houses here, full of people from all parts. Tourists, ladies and gentlemen, and with all those arisstocracy no dacent footpath to walk on. Now sir it do make a body feel puire and wisht for all those grand f o ?ks Uo a think sir, they would be a all the people a £* a when they do get home? If they did sar, haw would stop parcels of people from coming up here to see our lovely Springs But sar, I would like to tell'ee haw to make better roads, and hef a vZ, f QS °r No/ in that lo^iy paper of yourn, so as a body woud know what to do. No more at present, Yours, etc., Cousin Jack.
